KEEP HAMPSTEAD SAFER WITH SHAFFER
Dear Fellow Residents,
Thank you for re-electing me as your councillor in the previous 3 elections. It has been an honour and a privilege to serve you for the past 12 years.
As many of you are aware I am an Attorney by profession and have been a Hampstead resident for the past 40 years. I have served our community in various capacities, most recently, as your Councillor charged with Public Security, Traffic, Sponsorship and Legal portfolios.
When I first ran for office in 2009, I promised that, if elected, I would contribute significantly to the improvement of our Town, in three main areas:
- Public Security
- Road and sidewalk conditions
- Traffic
True to my promise, I helped in reducing the speed of vehicles on our streets by implementing numerous speed humps and other traffic calming measures. In addition, I was instrumental in limiting the morning traffic on many of our roads, all of which created a safer environment for our families.
During the past few years public security has become an even more important issue for our community.
To combat the Potential threats to our community I played a very active role in upgrading our Public Security vehicles from vans to Ford Explorers with push guards installed on the front bumpers.
These vehicles were equipped with sophisticated equipment making Hampstead the leader for all Police and Public Security bodies in the entire province. In fact both the Montreal Police and S.Q. have copied our vehicles.
Additionally I was very active in implementing significant security measures in and around our synagogues during Jewish High Holy Days. Concrete sleeves were installed in front of all our synagogues thereby greatly decreasing any risk to our community
Most recently I played an important role in having Hampstead create a Second Lieutenant Position which ensures supervisory coverage of our Town from 8:00 am to 1:00 am 7 days a week. In addition, I succeed in having the size of our Public Security force enlarged from 8 to 12 members, thereby resulting in having far more active patrols on our streets.
I also played an active role in improving our town’s infrastructure, resulting in better roads and sidewalks.
As your councillor in charge of the legal portfolio, I am responsible for dealing with claims made against Hampstead, and I estimate that we saved over $100,000 through my efforts.
I have delivered on my promises and made a difference Keep Hampstead Safer with Shaffer and I shall do my utmost to ensure even greater safety and security for our residents in the years ahead.
